About Liam

My name is Liam Richichi, and I’m running for East Lansing City Council because I believe in a local government that listens, includes, and acts in a bold manner to improve the lives of everyone in our community. A graduate from Michigan State University, majoring in Political Theory with minors in Business and Organizational Management, I’ve spent the last several years working at the intersection of public service, civic engagement, and community leadership. Now, I’m ready to take that experience to the next level and serve the city that has helped shape who I am.

My Story

Over the past year, I had the honor of serving as President of the College Democrats at MSU, where, alongside my team, we grew the club to be the largest College Democratic club in the United States. In that role, I led efforts that registered more than 2,000 student voters, knocked on over 18,000 doors, connected 45 of our members with part- or full-time campaign employment, built coalitions with local leaders and organizations, and brought national political figures—like Governor Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris—directly to East Lansing to energize voters. I was one of the main organizers and sponsors for the Harris rally on MSU’s campus back in November of 2024, an experience that was afforded members of the community and myself because of the immense and record-breaking efforts we saw on campus and across East Lansing. I’ve seen firsthand how young people can shape elections, build movements, and bring meaningful change to their communities when given a seat at the table.

But my work hasn’t just been about politics—it’s been about people. As the Constituent Services Director for State Representative Jason Morgan, I have furthered my work with community and constituent engagement, acting as the liaison between the community and the Representative, putting events together, and helping solve pressing constituent issues like homelessness and unemployment.

What I bring to the table is energy, a deep understanding of local issues, and a proven track record of organizing and advocacy. I’ve worked full-time on campaigns up and down the ballot, helped craft policy proposals, and supported efforts to expand public transportation and sustainability initiatives. I’ve also helped lead difficult conversations—on issues like immigration, policing, and foreign policy—with a commitment to mutual respect and community values.

As a proud member of the community, I’ve seen the ways East Lansing thrives—and where it falls short. We have seen the misfortunes of the lawsuits against the city, the BWL franchise fee, and, subsequently, the budget. I know we can do more to address our budget shortfalls without cutting the entirety of the parks and recreation budget, support prospective new home owners and renters, make our city more walkable and climate-resilient, and ensure that our university and city work together, not separately from one another. I’m running to be a voice for students, young professionals, working families, and anyone who feels unheard or unseen in their local government.

This campaign isn’t just about me—it’s about building a stronger, more inclusive East Lansing together. I’m ready to get to work, and I know you are too.
